Yes it works, I've used it for my pokemon black as it still cannot use wpa2 security. Works like a charm.

Another option is to set up a second wireless router as an AP only with lower security setting and mac filtering for use with your DS. Its also probably going to be easier to get over the next little while as people shift to wireless N. Also a second router would be cheaper then a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector and it wont be computer dependant.

Ask your brother to consider a dual firewall setup with the DS/weaker wireless on the external firewall.

Well when you live in the jungle like me things like these can be found
Besides don't bother trying to get one.. Only works with XP and you can use the usb to cook meat. Literally, that thing generates heat like a furnace. Just get a suitable wi fi usb adaptor form Radio Shack or best buy, Amazon, etc.
But yes, It works fine. No meltdowns.. as yet 0.o

It also works in XP mode in Windows 7
