Ok so 1st of all, I was ytrying to back up my Sd card to PC, and this autorun and other system file wouldn't transfer, (Not sure what exactly they're for, (if anyone knows could be helpful) but tried to figure out how to get the card to share to transfer them....they don't show up anymore, but everything seems to work fine) so all I'm left with is the DCIM and Nintendo 3DS folders with all their contents. (including a picture I had help with so people could view it in SwapNote, my Mii picture, Mii QR code)

All this aside, I haven't even started the transfer process yet, but I have both the 2GB SD card from my 3DS, and the 4GB SDHC thatc ame with the 3DS XL, which I intend to copy my data from the 2GB card. My assumption was that data might be erased from the 2GB card, I'm not quite sure what the transfer process does. Anyway, what i wanna know from anyone who's already done the trransfer is, what did you guys do? What should I do? Should I leave my 2GB card in my 3DS and 4Gb card in my 3DS XL starting the process? DID you gu6ys do any of this? Any card swapping involved? If anyone could provide me as much info as you have doing so please leave a reply back. Thanks!

well you want to transfer the data from the 2GB card to the 4GB SD card first, then do the system transfer otherwise you will be using the 2GB SD card from the source system (3DS) instead of the 4GB SD one in the target system (3DS XL).

I didn't do this per say but i looked it up on support.nintendo.com.
go to this link and it will tell you how to do the transfer process. you just have to click on transferring software to the 3DS and then click on how to transfer software from one 3DS to another 3DS.

OK, so......then should I just leave my 3DS XL with no card in it? Will my 4GB card even be ready to use if I copy the data 1st and then do the system transfer? The support link instructions really don't answer my questions and therefore aren't very helpful to me, thus is why I asked of people having already done the trransfer, what I should do. i'm still a bit lost with some of this.

i don't know....i did transfer my files to my computer but i never had a problem with it.

Hmm... This might be dumb question, what about where it asks about erasing the data on the target ystem's card, meaning 3DS XL I'm assuming. Just erase it during the transfer, back it up anyway?

I don't know. I transferred the day XL came out, so I don't really recall the specifics. I just did it, and it was done.

Again, the support instructions don't fully explain everything. Izf I erase the data on the 4GB SDHC, isn't tht assuming I'm going to use my 2GB SD card/ Will I still be able to transfer that card data after the system transfer and it be usable on the 4GB SDHC card?

Try and copy the files on your computer from the 2GB card to the 4GB one AFTER THE TRANSFER. I just redownloaded all my games and completed the games again.

I already have data from both my 2GB and 4GB cards copied into separate folders. Is this still going to work? Because again, I just need some solid info here before I do it myself and mess something up, and feel like i'm getting guesing answers and some questions not answered.

Anyway, just follow the instructions as they come during the transfer and nothing bad will happen. You already have backups of your data, so you're double safe now. Stop worrying about it. Seriously.

you just copy that data onto your 4GB SD card and then do the system transfer so you end up with the 4GB SD card in your target system which in this case would be your XL. Because your SD card from the source system, in this case the original 3DS, is the one that you use with your new system the XL. So if you want to use the bigger card, then transfer the files onto it.

Yeah i believe I might've made1 I don't recall how long ago, it might not even eixst anymore, which is why I made this thread and I don't even know if all of my questions were the same 1s. Still, I'd rather be safe than sorry and have solid info before doing anything.

Insert SD CARD with data into computer. Cut or copy. Insert the SD CARD you want to have the data on. Paste. Done.

They're both the same answer. I think you're just over thinking it. It's super easy. I did it without any advise whatsover on day one.

You can do that after the transfer too, if you're unsure.

I'm not overthinking, and like Isaid the 2 answers are tellihng me to do it in different orders It's like I just said I'd rather eb safe than sorry and know exactly what I'm doing, what will/won't happen. sigh I'm gonna have to go back through my ?s and try and see which 1s I actually need answers to or whatever and repost.

sigh Well, i have a brand new problem since Id ecided to go ahead and do the transfer, I followed and read the instructions carefully....I can't transfer my data onto the 4GB card and I have no idea why. It asked me tod elete data on the target card, which I thought i did. 1st I'm finding my 4GB card data doesn't seem to wanna delete, I'm getting a pop-up window saying Copy folder: The disc is write protected (This coming from that I decided to copy the contents from my 2GB SD card into a new folder, then attempted to transfer them to the 4GB SDHC) The next thing it says is "Remove the write protection or use another disc" This coming from the DCIM folder." This coming from the DCIM folder. NOW what do Im do??

sigh Nvm......I dunno what the deal was, i had to play around with the little SDcard switch,a nd kept trying to just transfer ata as is from the card. it's fine now.
