Topic: 3DS 3D screen repair

I just sent my 3DS in to Nintnedo of America to be repaired. It had small scratches on the 3D screen from where it touched the bottom screen. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, how long did it take to get your 3DS back?
Thanks!

I've had the problem but the scratches on mine are so faint that I haven't bothered to get it fixed. Was your system under warranty and if not, how much did it cost to fix it? I have sent my Wii in to be fixed before and that took roughly two weeks, so I would assume that's how long it will take for your 3DS screen to be fixed as well.

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

Get a cloth, they rub off fairly easily. If it bothers anyone that much just get some small bits of tape (~2mm "lengths") and put them over the rubber feet on the top half. Stops the problem.

@mully- when I first requested the order, the site told me that they would charge around 50 bucks to fix it! I only had red 3ds for about a month when the cuts showed up. I then contacted NOA by email explaining the situation and how this is a new 3DS, this whole problem is obviously a design flaw, for which I will not pay additional money to fix their problem (no swear words were used ). NOA emailed me back two hours later and gave me a number to call. They said if this problem is happening, they want to hear from everyone it's happening to. I called and they set me up with a free repair.
They sent a prepaid shipping label and the rest is history.

@skywake
No. I did all of that. You can actually feel inscribed grooves! I've cleaned it like crazy to try to get rid of them. Someone even
Suggested tape. No dice. If you gently run your finger nail across the screen, it would sink into the groove. This is especially odd since my son has had his since May, and he has no signs of screen wear. I had mine for two days over a month when I contacted Nintendo about the issue. No I haven't dropped it. No I haven't abused it. I'm very careful with my systems. My original gameboy brick and NES works to this day!

Just get screen protectors that's what I got

I know... I got one right away for the bottom screen. I really didn't anticipate the 3DS' bottom screen scratching the top screen...

Sent mine in about 2.5 months ago for the exact same problem. As for the amount of time it will take until you get, it really depends on where you're located. I live in the south suburbs of Chicago, and it took about 2 weeks for my 3DS to get to the repair facility it was sent to in L.A., get fixed, and get back to me, the majority of the time of that was it being in transport. I think someone here also sent their's in and it went to an East Coast facility to get repaired, but I can't confirm that atm. Your best bet as to how long it would take to get fixed would be to use the tracking number for your package with an online package tracker, multiply the estimated number of days until delivery by two, and add two days for the actual repair, and that is probably the best estimate for when you'd have your 3DS back.

Exactly.

Alright. Thanks. I'll just break out the GB advance until then.

I just read an article on there with that same picture! lol

On-Topic

We sent our Wii in once.
Didn't take long.
Might be same for 3DS

Perhaps I'll post tracking updates here. Maybe it'll be helpful to those who send their 3DS in for repair. The tracking said that my 3DS left Maple Grove, MN UPS depot on Wednesday. It arrived in Vernon, CA on Sunday.

yeah, that screen scratch is a problem for many of us. i used the great xbox 360 rubber feet technique. get those small rubber feet from a 360, you can pull them off easy since the glue used for them isnt permanent.
stick 2 of them on your top screen top-corners, and voilà. no more scratches, and theyre just perfectly shaped and add the perfect height for both screen stop touching each others without making the 3DS stay open. i used this trick a long while ago, and it works like a charm. i dont see those marks anymore, sleepmode works.

heck, by looking at it, its almost like the pads were made to be there originally hahaha.
someone on a post here on Nlife added photos about their screen repair. not only nontendo repair the screen, but they also add a little plastic part right near where you can place xbox pads.

since i had a protector when i had the marks, i didnt break my screen. since then, i removed the marked protector and didnt put another one.

im pretty sure someone made a guide or something for that padding trick. google search

@samholy
That's a great idea! I'll have to google that and implement the fix when I get my system back.

By the way, as part of the continuing 3DS shipping saga/update, the shipping stated that the system was delivered th Chatsworth, CA (NOA headquarters) today!

Quick question to those who have sent their 3DS for the scratched screens. Did Nintendo just fix the screens or did they also modify your 3DS's, (not sure if that correct grammer), so that this didn't happen again?

I can't understand people sending away their 3DS's over scratches on the screen.
You'll be sending it right back every few months or so.
No matter how carefull you are scratches are eventually going to happen.
The screens aren't made of 100 % scratch resistant material you know.
I don't remember anyone sending away their Gameboys.

I can see where you are coming from. I just don't think its fair after dropping in between $169.99-$249.99, that you find out your system tends to scratch itself. Especially after going through the trouble of being very careful with it. I've had my DSlite for about 5 years now and I have nearly no scratches on the top screen. The chasis outside however is very beat up. But I wouldn't trade that in since those scratches are from normal use. Plus I kinda think of those as battle scars and adds a lil bit of personality to my DSlite.

battlescars ? my screen protector was so scratched that i saw them while playing. rim scratches isnt a normal thing, its a flaw in their design. it detracts from the gaming, and for the price i paid for the thing, i dont want those.
it only appeared as grease marks or dust marks at first, but with time, they go deeper. you can feel them with your nails. ay least, on my screen protector.
when i removed it, the marks began to appear after a week, so i placed those 360 pads and voilà.

after a couple of months, i never say any marks again. only the joystick circle leaves a small grease mark that can be cleaned easily.

Yep, battle scars. The outside of my Ds lite looks pretty beat up, but the inside is nearly flawless.

so I guess a good question is has Nintendo changed their design yet? Are all of the new colored 3DS models still going to have this flaw? did they fix it with the red one?
Also, does anyone have an easy fix suggestion that doesn't involve owning a Xbox?

Mine is the red one! No fix there. After a month and a half it had the groves etched in the screen. That is why I sent it in. My original DS phat has two pristine screens to this day. As everyone else said, the body is beat all to hell, but it keeps working flawlessly. The scratches in the 3DS screen are approximately one to two millimeters wide and run down the entire screen. Seeing as they are actually on the viewing portion of the plastic, they are an annoyance and they actually detract from the 3D effect. The really odd thing about them is that not everyone gets them. My son has had his since May and there is tons of kid finger prints on the 3D screen, but no scratches! I can guarantee he is a hundred times harder on his 3DS than I am! I can't wait to get it back so I can implement Samholy's fix. I'll also go into it wiser this time, as I have a brand new upper screen protector ready to apply immediately.
