I'm expecting it to be on most of the time. Once, I went to the theatre and watched Alice in Wonderland and Avatar in 3D with a half an hour break between them, and I seemed to have no trouble with that. If I'm traveling, it'll probably be off so I don't have to worry too much about the battery life.
the 3D may hurt some eyes but it is something that (with a little tolerance) makes the graphics incredible. If you play with it off, you'll get what you've been seeing online but if you turn it on, the lighting and texture effects look so much more visible. give it a shot.

I don't think we should compare the 3DS 3D with the 3D you see in the movies. If I understand this correctly, stereoscopic 3D is a different type of 3D effect.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
@tristenj1992 Avatar and Alice in Wonderland both used stereoscopy. Stereoscopy is what everyone's talking about these days when they say 3D: a slightly different image to each eye to give the illusion of depth. It's exactly the same effect as the 3DS's screen except the technology used in the cinema requires glasses.

Apparently the main issue with the battery life is from the wireless stuff. The 3D doesn't drain nearly as much power as those functions.

Oh, sorry, I wasn't aware 3D movies had switched over to stereoscopy.

I know that, but I'm sure the battery will last at least a few more minutes with the 3D off. I rarely travel, anyway. And when I do, I might as well turn off the wireless too.
I'll try the maximum 3D setting first and hope i won't get any problems with it. I can only imagine turning the slider to complete 2D in situations like repetitious level grinding when i have to save battery life. If it turns out i cannot see any 3D effect i will return the 3DS and either not bother with the system anymore or wait until the price is on par with what the DSi cost at its launch.
The only situations I can see myself not using 3D are when I'm on a bus or are trying to show a friend/member of family something when they're sitting beside me.
It's 3D all the time for me baby! It's my main reason for actually buying the 3DS.
