Ok I just got the 2ds and I love the system my vita never sees the light of day and consoles have cob webs growing on them lol. I just had a question with my 2ds I had bought bravely default, fire emblem awakening and animal crossing. Now for the question, I am a big fan of games with very deep stories something you can get drawn into. A game that i remember like this is persona 4 golden where you fight fall in love and do regular things like normal daily life things not just fight demons all day I like the little things in persona like working dating etc. To me the little daily life tasks and all that really add to the story and help to draw you in or at least for me it does, and then the main plot where you fight demons etc just tops it off. Are there anything along these lines that's out now I know there's a persona q game out I think in Japan but when we will see it in the u.s idk.
thanks for any suggestions be I'm really stuck on what to get

Shin Megami Tensei IV. Which I probably spelled wrong, but if you enjoyed Persona, then SMT is a pretty natural fit.

There are also two (?) Etrian Odyssey games in the eShop, but if you're looking for a deep story you probably won't find it there. They're fun, but narratively light. (They do have demos, though, so there's no harm in trying those.)

Inazuma Eleven (also in the eShop) is a great RPG disguised as a soccer game. Still haven't finished it, but the story — as silly as it is — is a lot of fun.

There's also Rune Factory 4 (if you're in NA), which I've heard is like Harvest Moon combined with an RPG, but I haven't played that.

I hope this helps. PLEASE BUY SMT4 IT IS INCREDIBLE IT REALLY IS

If you like the little daily life tasks then Rune Factory 4 will be right up your alley. Crimson Shroud is also fantastic if you're looking for something shorter.

Also, it's odd that your Vita doesn't see the light of day if you love JRPG's...

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Thanks for the input guys i appreciate it i looked atrune ffactory 4 and i liked the way it looked so i picked it up also i picked up shin megami tensei iv they both looked great. And as for the why i don't play the vita much any more question honestly the 2ds just has a bigger library and more rpgs than the vita also it has the ds library as well. One fallback is graphics but i love nintendo cartoon style graphics as well but i grew up on super nintendo so i like the old zeldas etc.

@Philip_J_Reed Is SMT IV brutal in terms of difficulty? I remember playing another game called Devil Survivor and the difficulty made it unplayable

Wish I could help you out with the question but honestly I bought the games at 11 this morning and have only played rune factory for an hour or so and so far it doesn't disappoint. I asked about the SMT IV game and the guy at the store said it was exactly like persona series. Didn't mention the difficulty but if it's like persona series shouldn't be to terrible

Rune Factory 4 is amazing, though it does require a bit of patience to get married and have a kid

I would like to know that too. I have Devil Survivor and I am at the end but it is so freaking hard. I have yet to beat final stage. I am kind of afraid that SMT IV is just as hard.

Yeah, I agree with all that up there ^^. The first time I played it I did terribly in the first hour and thought it was way too difficult.

Then I gave it another shot and did a lot better. So here's some advice for the first go round:

1) Die. As soon as you can. After the third time you die, or so, you get the option for Easy mode. Easy mode is still incredibly challenging, believe me, and you'll be glad you have it.

2) Save scum like mad in the first dungeon. As mentioned above, the game oddly gets easier as you go on...provided you keep a healthy amount of demons in your back pocket. At first there's a lot more at stake, because if you fail a negotiation with a demon you don't only lose the chance to recruit him, but you are very weak and won't have any help during its attack. So save scum like mad until you amass a few demons. If you don't, you'll only make things way harder on yourself.

Incredible, incredible game though. And don't look up any spoilers...it's a hell of a ride.

I concur SMT IV is amazing, it's hard in the begining but once you understand the battle system the game becomes a piece of cake, although I do recomend a walkthrough for your first playthrough, but not so much because of the bosses more because of the overworld in tokyo is easy to get lost in.
Also if you can find a limited edition still, the guide is very useful when you first start out.

Just saw this thread. I have had SMT IV downloaded from an atlus sale several months ago, but I haven't even cracked it open yet...now this makes me want to. But I have almost 8 RPGs on my 3ds waiting for me...

Currently playing: Mario Kart 8, W101, Lego City, and MANY eshop games. :)

Another JRPG I'd recommend is SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked. I loved the original version on the DS. It's got a bit of a more strategic feel to it due to its grid based battles.

On that subject, don't forget that as you can play DS games there are a dime a dozen of quality RPGs, although getting hold of some might be tricky.

Do you have any helpful hints on how to beat the final boss (or at least I hope it is the final boss) on Amane's side?

RPGs with story: Tales of the Abyss, Conception II is almost here or already here (IDK it's not my type of game since I hate multi-job based RPGs, including Bravely Default), Kingdom Hearts 3D (if you keep up with the story), Devil Survivor overclocked, Crimson shroud (turn-based but has tabletop RPG elements), Etrian odyssey Millenium Girl (the EO series is more of a dungeon crawler but apparently they added a story to this game).
RPGs light on story: Denpa Men 1 and 2, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, Pokemon X or Y, Paper Mario Sticker Star (most people hate it though), Mario Tennis (GBC), Etrian Odyssey 4
Note I did not include which games are eShop only so you may have to do some research.

Etrian Odyssey IV, in my opinion, is by far the best RPG on the 3DS. Whether it has enough story for you, I don't know, but in my opinion what's there is very good. It's not told to you via cutscenes, but it has a solid story behind it.

I'm one of the few who hated the game. I just can't get into it. Especially the map drawing thing.
