So a tradition in my family is that when you turn 16 you get $100 to spend on whatever you want, and I turn 16 next month. For about a year now I've been putting a decent amount of thought into what I'd be spending that money on, and for the longest time I was positive that I would spend around $30 more to get a 2DS. Having never owned my own handheld gaming console, or my own Nintendo console for that matter, I could only be optimistic about this, and with the Mario Kart 7 bundle announced a while back the situation never seemed better.
But, things have changed and I'm left wondering what to spend this on 1 month before I actually get that money. You see, for a while now I've had this somewhat dated but still working MP3 Player in my possession, but it's recently been acting up and no earbuds really work with it anymore. As one might guess, I hate this. I love music, and I don't want to be left without my own MP3 Player. This has left me without a decent music player for just a few months now, and it's really made me think about what I really want to spend this money on.
Now this is already way too long, but I honestly want some good advice on what to buy, and why. If anyone can give me some really good reasons on which to choose from, it would be greatly appreciated.

The 3DS/2DS has an MP3 player on it! Put your music files on the SD card in a folder called "music", hit the "Music" app on the main menu, and you're good to go.

Protip: The 3DS (for whatever reason) can only handle one hundred MP3 files per folder. To work around this, put several folders in your "Music" folder and fill them with one hundred music files each.

If you have earbuds in the 3DS and the music going, you can close the system and the music will continue to play. Great for walking and getting those StreetPasses.

For the sake of fairness, one con I found with it is the Music App is really slow when you start it up. Also, the battery when playing music isn't the greatest, especially compared to an iPod.

I say get the Nintendo. Get a pair of earbuds for it - don't neglect the games music when out and about, on the bus or whatever. With the music, think long term and start up a record collection. Nintendo games are mint and you will enjoy them anywhere - but you'll appreciate music much more at home listening to full albums on record rather then crappy MP3 files on the go!

everyone needs to relax and enjoy the games that are released today and stop worrying what Nintendo will do in a year or two from now.
