do any games lag other than load times as in gameplay wise on every console?

i was watching a youtuber that said future games aren't going to be as good playing older consoles... is this true at all?

does 2ds play the same gameplay wise with Metroid Samus Returns, Pokemon, other games? as the new 3ds, xl/2ds xl?

@Jarester Aside from some faster loading times, Hyrule Warriors Legends (wich runs at a lower framerate on normal 2DS/3DS) and a few exclusives on New 3DS (Xenoblade Chronicles, Fire Emblem Warriors, SNES VC and a few more) there isn't much difference and most games run the same in terms of gameplay. A few games have been optimized for the new models, but even then the gameplay differences aren't notable or significant enough to the average gamer.

In some cases games can play worse on the 3ds model compared to a 2ds model. One that comes to mind is Lego Hobbit which makes a boss towards the end almost impossible to beat when 3D mode is enabled.

these are all the games i have in mind

pokemon (omega ruby/ ultra sun)
yoshi's new island
Kirby: Planet Robobot
metroid samus returns
donkey kong returns
luigi mansion
super mario 3d land
Hey! Pikmin (3DS)
paper mario sticker star
zelda a link between worlds
mario and luigi dream team bros
lego
super mario bros 2
pac man

any framerate differences or anything with those games? just checking, mainly worried about pokemon

I kept googling 2ds and the thing that struck me the most and why i consider it a good option was people say it's like playing gameboy again and that actually seems pretty good to me.

Very few games actually take advantage of the extra power on the new models. The biggest example is Hyrule Warriors, which plays CONSIDERABLY better on the new models.

Pokemon Sun/Moon/US/UM are some of them. The games are still perfectly playable on the older models though. They just have more framerate drops in general.

Other than those, the games you listed should play identically in any system in the 3DS family.

The 2DS is actually my favorite model. It's a great option to play them, if you aren't interested in the "new" exclusives like fire emblem warriors and the such.

BTW, I'd recommend getting Yoshi's Wooly World over New Island. It's awesome.

that sounds descent then. got some thinking to do. I really don't want a xl so yea..

I wasn't going to buy yoshi's woolly world cause I'm gonna get it for my wii u instead. so I figured new island would be better and not just the same.

The WiiU version is a thing too, I guess. Though the 3DS version has a bit more content.

It's just a lot better than New Island, anyway.

I recommend getting a yoshi amiibo if you get it for WiiU or are able to read amiibo in the 3DS. The yoshi companion is rather convenient.

And Yarn Yoshi = Best Amiibo.

There are frame rate differences in Pokemon Sun/Moon?

I haven't got round to playing them yet. What differences are we talking about? Something like 25fps->30fps?

The games have frame rate issues in all the models. They're just more common on the older ones.

Specifically, they happen during battles. The frame rates will start looking funny the more pokemon and trainers there are on the field. On the regular models, this can happen even in 1-on-1 battles.

It's nothing major though.

I didn't really notice many significant drops in FPS when playing Pokemon Sun on my standard 3DS. I mean, they are noticeable, but aren't game-breaking by any means.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

For Pokemon Sun and Moon, and USUM I have both heard many times, and seen myself, significant lag and slowdown on older systems. Even on the newer systems, some of the Z-moves show a distinct delay while the animation loads. When playing Triple and Rotation battles in Pokemon XY and ORAS there was very noticable slowdown on the animations on my old 3DS XL and I suspect that is why those modes were cut in SMUSUM.

However Xenoblade which is exclusive to N3DS variants, ran just fine... if you can stand playing it on such a tiny screen.

Yeah the reason battles tend to run funny in the pokemon games is because the pokemon models are actually way more high quality than they need to be for a 3D model on the 3DS. (and in the case of the 7th gen games, the trainers are in a similar situation, which is probably why they cut the battle modes that show more than 4 pokemon at once, because those extra slots are now being taken by up to 4 trainers in some battle modes)

Why? Well, apparently it's really simple, it's because they wanted their models to last them a really long time, that's why.

Kinda like how they kept reusing the 3D models for the first 251 pokemon from the N64 all the way up to the Wii. They plan to reuse these for at least a few console generations.
