Topic: 2D Mario title coming to the 3DS

Super Mario World is my favorite Mario game. So for me, Nintendo needs to take the best from SMW (memorable level layout, amazing music, plenty of secrets, streamlined for speedrunning purposes) and repackage it for it to be the TRUE Super Mario World 2. Not like Yoshi's Island. (Note: I don't hate the game; in fact, I love it, but it's not a Mario game, as many other people here have already said)

EDIT: Call the game Super Mario Bros. Gold. As in, the ULTIMATE 2D Mario game (until the next one comes).

Super Mario World is a bad Mario game. I prefer New Super Mario Bros. DS because that game is incredibly difficult and awesome.

It bothers me that Nintendo can make SMB2 look different from SMB1 and SMB3 look different from SMB2, but they can't make New Super Mario Bros. games look different from each other! THEY LOOK THE SAME!!!
Please just pick a different art style! Heck, make Mario's appearance change from 3D to sprite to paper to M&L Sprite etc.
Now that would make me happy.

If NSMBM would include different worlds that would change the graphics to differnet art styles that would be a day one buy for me.

World one: NSMB graphics
World two: Super mario world
World three: Super mario bros. 2
World four: Super mario 64 graphics
World five: Paper mario style.

etc. Would be such an awesome game 8)

To each their own. I also enjoyed NSMB, but I felt that the game was too easy for me. Except when I had to get some of those pesky Star Coins...

NSMB felt easier compared to SMW in my opinion. But I replay SMW more that NSMB because it's more fun for me. Technically, NSMB should be better. But the level designs and difficulty (to be honest, SMW was easy too) felt lesser than SMW. Not saying they were bad, btw.

Anyway, I forgot to add what many people here had already said: level editor! Hacking SMW to make custom levels was a great concept, and I feel that with a level editor, it could be fun to tinker with. Take notes from Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, Nintendo. And besides, space isn't an issue. We'll have gigantic SD cards.

Shhh, don't let Nintendo hear you. They'll make a cel-shaded Mario game, and half of the internet will complain about it. Then they'll make a photo-realistic Mario game, and the other half will complain. Nintendo will continue to try to please everyone with new art styles, and then they'll forget to make the games good.

You guys do realize SMB2 wasn't originally a Mario game right? Which is why it looks "sooo different."

One thing, though. This game will be hitting retail shelves because it will attract more customers. You can't really tell customers that there will be a new Mario game for your system unless you REALLY market it or put it on retail shelves for everyone to see in the mall.

Also, the other people and I have spoken: I vouch for level editors because, as LordTendoboy has said, it encourages creativity. Remember the Super Mario World romhacks? Remember playing Kaizo Mario World? Mario's Masochistic Mission? Item Abuse 1 and 2? I do because their level designs were creative and made you feel awesome when playing the games.

Now, there will be the worry that you can't fit a huge level into a level editor with limited space. But as I have said before, we will have gigantic SD cards. Even if they aren't 32 GB, who cares? Most people would pretty much buy a 3DS for Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Nintendogs. So that pretty much guarantees that levels created with an editor will be long and awesome, as Super Mario 3D Land is contained into a 2 GB card (I think), so custom levels will be long, fulfilling, and fun. This is my hope..

I will be very surprised if Nintendo adds a level editor.

Yeah, the REAL SMB2 looks pretty much like the first one.

It will be good because people seem to think the 3D is the selling point for the 3DS.

I would really like the Ice Flower and Yoshi to be in the game. Cooperative multiplayer like in NSMBW wouldn't hurt either, but I doubt Nintendo will add that. Actually since NSMBW introduced the Ice Flower, it would be nice to have another type of elemental flower. The Lightning Flower, perhaps? Some of the powerups from SMG/2 would be nice. I kind of want the four colors of Koopa Shells (green, red, blue, yellow) from SMW back; nowadays it's just green and red. How boring.
But what I care most about is the LEVEL DESIGN. I wish that Nintendo would add mechanics like running up walls in SMW back. Or better yet, come up with some entirely new mechanics. I just want more creativity in general with level design. Of the more recent Mario games, NSMBW had some of the best level design imho. I'd like to see more of that.

If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...

this time around i hope they pay more attention to the world map. nsmbw and galaxy 2 both had really simple and plain maps with few secret paths, and the special worlds are just handed to you once you get enough star coins. super mario world wouldn't have been half as good without that awesome map where levels could have as many as 4 secret exits, the secret levels that had secret exits of their own, the secret star warps and the secret exit in star world that led to the uber-secret special world, and the pumpkin plant/mario mask sprites for beating all of it. there are so many layers of depth in that game that the new mario world maps feel boring and lazy in comparison.
