Like in LBP, I think a Mario level editor would be stupid.
It depends on how it's done. LBP's level editor is too complex for me, I don't like using it at all. The Mario vs DK level editors are very simple to use, since they're grid-based, you just drag and drop objects and they "snap" into place.
Eh, I'm pretty sure some people could come up with some awesome levels. Dunno why he would think its stupid...but Nintendo tends to make things easy when it comes to creation. Heck, even Do It Yourself wasn't THAT hard to get used to.

If it's like Excitebike I would like it but I don't know. It depends on if 1) It ever happens 2) If it's easy and fun to use. None of this flat level design with hills **** like Excitebike. I want to be able to make exact replicas of older levels, Ghost houses, underwater level, forest levels, ice levels, castle layouts, etc.
I expect the world from Nintendo if there is a level maker.

Well I dunno about everything, but I'm sure they'll allow us to choose a "theme" for a level, like a castle or forest. But yeah I see what you're saying...Hope that we'll be able to link levels together on a map and have multiple exits as well if it does happen.

I'm really surprised that they've announced another Super Mario platformer on the 3DS so soon after 3D Land. I could understand if 3D Land had bombed, but it's selling incredibly well, so I'm surprised by this announcement, particularly so soon. 3D Land could very well sell throughout the 3DS' life like NSMB DS did (the DS' one Super Mario game which imo is how it should be, ideally, to prevent overkill/burn out), in which case I don't see why they need to rush out another one on the console. Just seems kind of strange.
I also think it's highly unlikely there'll be a level editor, unless they want to devalue the content of their own game. Also, the appeal of things like level editors are vastly over-estimated. Most people don't care for them (and I don't think Nintendo particularly do either, certainly not for Mario). Wario Ware DIY has one of the best game creator/level editor modes ever made, yet it sold poorly compared to other Wario Wares because most consumers aren't interested, they want to be the consumers, not the creators. I imagine lots of people were excited about the stage creator in SSBB, but I imagine most didn't actually spend a whole lot of time with it and got bored with it quite quickly.
Now that I think about it...I remember Nintendo saying that they will be releasing a 2D Mario game soon before as well as a 3D Mario game (3D Land). So the 2D Mario game announcement wasn't surprising. lol

All they have to do is copy the level editors from Mario vs Donkey Kong (and Mario Builder) and call it a day. Everything is done on a grid surface, it's all simple drag-and-drop stuff.
Grid based would be stupid. Leave Mario vs. Donkey out of my Super Mario.
If you think about it, TendoBoy does make a point about the levels being grid-based. Take a good look at the levels back in Super Mario World. Even the slopes you see in some levels are just based on a "grid".

Even before that, back to the original Super Mario Bros. Each level is designed in "blocks."
I can see why they would do this so soon, theres already complaining about there being no good games coming out this year so Nintendo just wants to keep the momentum that they got during the last 3 months.

The Mario vs DK games on the DS had level editors, yet Nintendo still made sequels with different editing tools and gimmicks. The games sell well enough.
And to people who don't get the appeal of level editors: Play Trackmania, LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, etc. Many fan-made Mario / Sonic / Mega Man games are created using the resources taken straight from the game. Also, Valve is very supportive of the "modding" community, they made level editors for Portal 1 and 2.
The whole point of a level editor is to nurture creativity and give the game added value. Creating my own levels feels inspiring and fun, it's why I play the Mario vs DK games all the time.
