I have 256 GB Micro SD formatted FAT32, but when I download Pokémon Y I can't no more download games and get error when should finish download or start download something else. When I launch Pokémon Y it freezes at "The game is preparing to load, and additional data is being created.". Can someone explain where is problem?

It's probably that your card is too big, or you need to redownload the game.

I just downloaded game. Card works fine even I read in internet that 64+ GB Cards works when formatted as FAT32.

The 3ds officially supports up to 32gb. Anything bigger than that is unpredictable and not guaranteed to work correctly.

You went really big with yours, so, the more you put on it, the harder it will be for the system to keep track of it.

Anyway, it's just my theory.

Edit: it seems card class and speed also affect the results.

There is about 2 GB used now after I downloaded Nintendo Badge Arcade, Pokémon Picross, Pokémon World Rumble, Pokémon Y. So.
Class 10.

Well, then just try "fixing" the pokemon game by redownloading it.

If it still fails, then it's definitely your memory card or system.

You can also experiment by downloading it to a smaller card and seeing what happens.

The card is simply too powerful. With that many gigs, it takes a lot more processing power to write into and read them since the card itself is pretty huge. Think of it this way, you wouldn't use a double A battery for something that only needs a triple A, it'll be too strong and overload the device despite both giving energy. Same deal with the 3DS, it can't handle huge SD cards. You can get away with a 64gig maybe, but over 200 is way overkill.

So 256+ GB cards don't work on New Nintendo 3DS XL, but 200, 128 and 64 GB ones works? Cool that when I bought 256 GB one I bought 128 GB card as well for insurance is 256 GB card wouldn't work for New Nintendo 3DS XL model.

@SViper I only say 64GB cause I've seen somebody around here using a 64GB with no issues, but nintendo notes that it supports only <=32GB. I can't even promise 64GB will work on that particular model just by that description alone.

Oh, to tell true in internet there are a lot information that people use 64/128 GB ones formatted as FAT32, so. And world known website says 64+ GB is usable when formatted FAT32.

Are you planning to buy a bunch of Games virtually? Even if you did you probably won't need more than 32/64, I can't remember what mine is I do think it's one of the above for sure but yea there really is no need for a bigger card in my opinion.

Also just a heads up, I personally never go virtual unless it's a game I absolutely cannot get like any of the older games, if you can find a game cartridge it's always best to have it... I just never have trusted stuff in the cloud or whatever. I'm weird I know, back to op - yea try something smaller.

Yes, I do. I don't like Physical ones, because those can broke ans such as. Virtual copies are unbreakable.
BTW do you know 256 GB and bigger cards really don't fully work at any 3DS family consoles (in my case New 3DS XL model) like Araquanid says?

If they're not supported then they more than likely won't work due to the large size, I would honestly try a size 64 first and then the 32 if the 64 don't work. The one you got is truly overkill.

As for cartridges breaking; I've never ever had any DS / 3DS cartridge break on me, they're not fragile like cds as there are no moving parts, I've never had any to wear out on me. Cartridges in my opinion are very sturdy if treated well as long as they are not crushed with force or submerged in liquids. I would personally rather take my chances with cartridges than go the dlc / virtual route because everything bought online can be lost, honestly it would suck if the system tore up or one would somehow lose their password or / even their account somehow - goodbye games! So again it's too risky for me, I'd much rather have a physical copy in my hand. Dlc / virtual copies can always be purchased, but cartridges are something that over time like any game they will slowly go out of circulation / be hard to find and again cartridges at least in my opinion rarely break if ever.

What you do is totally up to you but if something isn't working - fix it. I do think the card you got is overkill but nothing I say can convince you as you are your own person and at the end of the day you're going to do what you want to do, but if I were you I'd consider taking our advice especially since you asked for it and all.

Having a size 64 sd isn't going to hurt you and even if it did fill up with games, you can either get a back up 3DS to hold more or buy another duplicate size 64 sd to store even more games and keep both cards and just switch them as needed perhaps?

The only thing bigger that MAY work is the 128gb (it must be formatted a certain way) but I heard even then they can only hold 99gbs but don't quote me on it. I also heard there is a limit to how many games one can have anyway so technically with anything above that it would be overkill it all couldn't be read anyway AND one would reach the game limit before they'd ever even fill the sd card up.

Not sure about a 256gb, but I'm using a Sandisk 128gb SDXC Class 10 card reformatted to FAT32 with no issues. All my games, including Pokemon, run just fine.

Total capacity after format is 119gb:

I'm assuming @SViper has a n3DS, as he bought a microSD. Switching the card involves unscrewing the back plate, which is a hassle. For the second paragraph, if there is an app limit, it's higher than 112. Remains to be seen if I'll hit the app limit or card capacity limit first.

I'm using the same kind of card as you, but 512 GB. My 3DS reads it with no problems.
I have FE:A, BD and PW in there, and works perfectly.

For the OT, why don't you try formatting it again? Maybe the process had some error and that's why it doesn't read t.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

It was formatted over 10 times, so...
