Downloading this week’s WiiWare release might cause some of you to make confused grunting sounds and paw angrily at your Wii Remote, because the retro visuals and 8-bit music of Bit.Trip Beat might suggest to some that they’ve accidently downloaded a Virtual Console release.

It's another catch-up week for Europe, with one game the US has had forever and a game they got about two months ago.

Are you ready to get your funk on? You'd better be, because Aksys Game's Bit.Trip.Beat is coming to the North American WiiWare service on Monday, March 16th.

Arc System Works is bringing out what appears to be the sole new WiiWare release on the Japanese service next Tuesday, a game centred around golf putting called Okiraku Pata-Gorufu (Family Golf Putter). You're able to choose from four characters (a cute anime family rendered in cel-animation style) and try to putt your ball into a series of holes doing various trick shots. Wiimote control only with use of a simple arm swing after setting shot power to get the ball rolling appears to be the interface. The game will be 500 points, we expect Aksys Games will publish this in North America and Europe sometime later this year.

The ESRB has updated with a whopping four new WiiWare ratings! Three of these games have already been released in Japan, but have now gotten their first sign of a release elsewhere. The other's quite a surprise!

Bit.Trip Beat looks set to be one of the most original and fun games of 2009 on WiiWare. It’s a clever blend of Atari 2600 visuals, Pong gameplay and a slamming chiptune soundtrack.
