Re: Nintendo Of America Restructuring Testing Department, Over 100 Contractor Jobs Reportedly Eliminated

@BTB20 It's a long list, top item being the culture we're all sick of hearing about in other companies by now; my girlfriend and I quit when nothing was done about something that was happening to her, blatantly, on full display for weeks, and we weren't even the first people to report it. The sanitation was horrific, there were weird stains and very bad smells everywhere from the carpet to the chairs as if a janitor hadn't been in the area for years. The 3DS units we had to work with were disgusting and falling apart and the keyboards were even worse. It was such a sad little office and they put up mangled old posters of Mario characters that were probably an attempt to make you feel cool about working there but ultimately just made the atmosphere more of a joke, I sat next to two crumpled halves of a Toad poster put together crudely with a crooked strip of tape. Management would play their political podcasts on high volume while everyone worked and if you asked them to turn it down they had all sorts of idiotic responses like "work your way up to management and you can play whatever you'd like" or "you should be paying attention to this". They shut and locked the doors the second the clock hit 8am and anyone who was literally even a second late for any reason missed the whole day and got a strike, three of which would get you fired, and other penalties included "referencing other games or series that you're not working on" even if you said something like "nice Zelda shirt" to someone in the break room which would result in getting called into a meeting with a manager and having a 15 minute conversation about how you're putting their security in jeapordy.
It was cool during lunch walking over to the main Nintendo building's cafeteria next door but the contrast in quality made going back to your cubicle all the more sad. The nicer building had big statues, happy employees, clean everything. It was like we didn't belong there.
I could go on.

At the very least, these were contractors who knew and agreed to this kinda stuff day one. The entire structure behind being a contractor is picking up and dumping jobs semi frequently. Still sucks, but they should know the drill by now given their line of work.

Now MY concern is... WHAT QUALITY TESTERS???? You are telling me 100 people had the chance to see, play, and DO something about the constant AI slop and stolen asset flip garbage clogging up the eshop??? I know the job isn't as simple as that, but... they DO know these are making the eshop an interactive mobile game ad nightmare, right???

I hope I misinterpreted what this position meant, because if I was right then I don't even wanna know what things will be like now

@Crono1973 I agree they should bring back retro games in for their stores. They would also need give fair prices/store credit for used video games for those who want to sell to them, because they would need inventory, if they offer very little, then they won't get much retro games in their stores.

For the larger-medium size Gamestop stores, I welcome more than just Video games in them though.

Re: Talking Point: Why Isn't Nintendo Revealing Its Partner Devs Before Launch?

IDK if this is related, but according to TV Tropes, under "Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things", as of the early 2020s, Nintendo no longer reveals the developers of their games until their release, in which fans will need to get the games and reach the credits to find out who produced them. This is likely to deter complaining about or harassment towards developers on social media. The same applies for voice actors, for safety reasons.

I have to go with both. I enjoyed how funny the golfing shrine in BotW(if you know, you know) and just how much you can mess with enemies in TotK and how much better getting around is(thank goodness for the frog armor that lets you laugh at rain). I even decided to do the tutorial area in BotW with the Master Mode thing to prepare for when TotK came out.

Contractors can indeed be temporary. It’s possible Nintendo are dressing this up a little but it’s not comparable to what’s been happening at other big firms. I imagine the short-term gigs are drying up a bit temporarily due to the transition from Switch to Switch 2.

I’m no expert in the biz but if I were at Nintendo, and there’s an upcoming new console and nothing revealed as of yet? I’d be tempted to lock that down and keep testing completely in-house.

Side point: who is Gach and why do we listen to them?

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Advance Library Later This Week

I bided my time as the NSO library was very slowly built over the past X years, only having finally subscribed a month ago. Now I’m joyfully going through a bunch of old gems that I never played before, especially enjoying Treasure’s work for Sega. Every new release is a bemusing and pathetic joke, but then again, I don’t care because I’m happily taking the long way home.
